Couple's Trial Delayed In California Deputies' Deaths

(AP) - A judge is delaying the trials for a husband and wife accused of killing two Northern California sheriff's deputies during an hours-long rampage in 2014.

Sacramento County Superior Court judge Steve White on Friday set a trial date in October 2017 for Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes and his wife, Janelle Monroy.

The couple were initially scheduled to stand trial in March but defense attorneys said they needed more time to review evidence turned over by prosecutors.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Bracamontes briefly objected to delaying the trial but relented after speaking with his court-appointed attorneys.

Bracamontes and Monroy are each charged with murder in the deaths of Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Davis Jr.
