(AP) - Reno's city prosecutor is following the lead of his counterparts in Las Vegas, who say they won't prosecute minor possession of marijuana cases until pot becomes legal in Nevada in less than six weeks.
But officials in Washoe County and neighboring Sparks say they'll continue to enforce existing prohibitions until a voter-approved initiative legalizing marijuana possession for recreational use kicks in Jan. 1.
In Carson City, state Attorney General Adam Laxalt says he's watching how the new law affects police and sheriffs, and how marijuana will be taxed.
Reno City Attorney Karl Hall says he agrees with Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and the Las Vegas city attorney.
They've said it doesn't make sense to file new charges against people accused of having less than an ounce of pot.
