Tuesday the Sacramento City Council is expected to adopt changes to an ordinance that would set special-event parking fees around the Golden 1 Center.
Erika Galang is with the Parking Services Division. She says you can park near the arena and pay the regular rate for the number of posted hours. Then, you can use the meter or a smart phone app to pay the long-term rate of $18.75.
Galang says, if you park in a "1+" zone, "You could still pay that $1.75 for the first hour, $3.00 for the second hour, and then whatever the difference is leftover, that is what you pay for special-event meter rate for that third hour or beyond," says Galang.
Under the new ordinance, special-event rates will be implemented within three blocks of the Golden 1 Center -if an event there has more than 15,000 people attending.
The ordinance allows the City to expand the special-event parking area to as many as 12 blocks from the arena, if businesses and residents complain about a lack of parking.
Parking garages will likely charge about $15 for special-event, long-term parking. But, if you use the city's app to pre-pay, you will save $3.75.
People who live downtown will be exempt from the long-term pricing, and will soon be able to apply online for temporary permits for guests.
If the council approves the changes, they would go into effect in 30 days.
