The City of Sacramento has released proposed downtown parking rates for when big crowds are attending events at the new Golden 1 Center.
There are three different rates depending on where you park. The maximum rate for parking on the street within three blocks of the arena would be a flat nightly fee of $18.75.
The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says downtown merchants are tentatively in support of what's being proposed.
"In the past they've been concerned that a flat fee for special events would discourage people from parking downtown whether or not they were attending an arena event," says Sorich. "Basically the city has limited the highest flat fee to evenings of the biggest events and the area closest to the arena."
The proposed rates go before the Sacramento City Council next Tuesday and would take effect in late September.
The list of out-of-town beer makers establishing ties to Sacramento is growing. And that's raising eyebrows among Sacramento brewers. This week the Sacramento Kings announced a partnership with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. The Chico-based brewer will have its own lounge in the new Golden 1 Center.
Sorich says East Bay brewer Drake's recently announced it'll be in the Barn in West Sacramento and Berkeley's Fieldwork Brewing is opening a taproom in midtown.
"This raises all sorts of discussions about the role that out of town brewers should play in our growing beer scene and if local brewers should get any kind of preference when it comes to the area's more prominent venues."
About 40 craft brewers are based in the Sacramento area. The most recent state tax data show beer production in the four-county Sacramento area has doubled since October 2014.
