Citrus Heights Police shot and killed a man who was reported to be armed and acting erratically.
Just before midnight Monday, the Citrus Heights Police Department announced on Twitter that "Officers responded to a call of a subject armed with a gun. An officer involved shooting occurred."
The department later said that "Suspicious gas canisters" at scene of the shooting have been rendered safe. The shooting happened near Mesa Verde High School.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the officers involved in the fatal shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy.
