Update 9:00 p.m.: The Cold Fire in Yolo County is now 5,731 acres and 80% contained. Cal Fire reports that firefighters are still making good progress, and full containment is expected Tuesday.
In Monterey County, the Soberanes fire has grown to 60,900 acres. The blaze is now 50% contained -- up from 45% Monday morning -- after a second day of increased wind and fire activity created a challenge for firefighters.
The Pilot Fire buring in San Bernardino National Forest east of Los Angeles is now 6,298 acres and 6% contained. The Associate Press reports that smoke from the fast-burning fire is creating haze more than 200 miles away in Las Vegas.
Original Post: The Cold Fire is still burning near Lake Berryessa in Yolo County. Cal Fire estimates that almost 5,400 acres have burned, and fire crews have it 70 percent contained. One outbuilding structure was destroyed.
Meanwhile, a new fast-moving forest fire in the San Bernardino National Forest has prompted road closures and evacuations in a remote state recreation area near Silverwood Lake, about 55 miles east of Los Angeles.
And in Monterey County near Big Sur, the Soberanes Fire is now just over 60,000 acres and 45 percent contained.
