3:50 p.m. (AP) — Authorities are preparing to search a remote area about 90 miles north of San Francisco for a 15-year-old girl who has been missing since a witness saw her being dragged across a freeway overpass.

The Solano County Sheriff's Office said Friday that new information was prompting investigators to focus their search along a road that traverses Sonoma Coast State Park near the town of Jenner.

Sheriff's Deputy Christine Castillo did not say what the nature of the new information was but said it came out of the investigation into Pearl Pinson's disappearance.

The search for the missing girl has been complicated by the death Thursday of the 19-year-old acquaintance suspected of abducting her.

Police fatally shot Fernando Castro in Southern California after they spotted his car and exchanged gunfire with him as they say he was attempting to get away.

11:15 a.m. (AP) — The sister of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted at gunpoint says she had heard the name of the suspect in the kidnapping but didn't know him.

The Solano County Sheriff's Department says a witness saw a man identified as 19-year-old Fernando Castro dragging a screaming and bleeding Pearl Pinson across a Northern California freeway overpass Wednesday morning as she walked to school.

Investigators are searching for her over hundreds of miles of California. Police spotted Castro's car in Southern California and fatally shot him after a high-speed chase and gunbattle.

Pinson's sister, Rose Pinson, tells the Vallejo Times-Herald that Castro was an acquaintance and she had never met him.

Authorities say Castro and the missing girl knew each other but believe she was taken unwillingly.
