(AP) — Dive teams are continuing their search for the body of a teenage boy who went underwater in the American River in Auburn as dozens of volunteers participated in an Earth Day cleanup.
The Sacramento Bee reports dive teams renewed their efforts Sunday in the area where the Middle Fork and North Fork of the American River meet.
Supervising Ranger Scott Liske says he was collecting bottles that volunteers had collected when he saw the teenager go underwater and not surface Saturday afternoon.
He says the Placer County dive team searched the cold waters for several hours Saturday.
Liske says that with help from the Placer County Water Authority water flow was temporarily reduced from the Oxbow Reservoir upstream to help the search.
