(AP) — Authorities say a 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after shooting herself inside a Sacramento County home.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull says officials received a call reporting the toddler had shot herself Monday afternoon.
He says sheriff's deputies and SacramentoMetropolitan Fire Department personnel responded to the home near Gerber and Power Inn roads, and the girl was transported to a hospital.
Turnbull says three women were at the home when deputies arrived. One of the three women was identified as the mother of the girl.
According to Turnbull, detectives did not locate the firearm and are still trying to figure out how the child gained access to it. The owner of the firearm has not been identified either.
Turnbull says investigators are still at the house conducting interviews.
