Thousands of people in Sacramento are expected to take part in a march Monday honoring the late civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr.

The annual March For The Dream event starts at the Oak Park Community Center at 8:30 a.m. The six-mile procession will trigger rolling street closures along parts of 12th Avenue, Freeport Boulevard, Landpark Drive, Broadway, 9th Street and L Street.

The march ends at the Sacramento Convention Center. That's where a "Diversity Expo" will be held with speakers, music and resources on health, employment and education.

Monday also marks a "day of service" when about 500 people are expected to volunteer at several improvement project sites around town. They'll be painting, gardening and cleaning along the American River Parkway and at the Sacramento Zoo and Skycrest Elementary School, among other places.
