Recycling Christmas Trees Is Easy

The City of Sacramento has a simple way for people to recycle their old Christmas trees.

"Collection of Christmas trees is something that is part of the city's green waste service," says Erin Treadwell with the City of Sacramento. "Folks can put their Christmas trees out with their leaf piles anytime during leaf season. The last day for collection will be January 31."

Treadwell says there are also options for people who don't have the service. She says there are free tree drop off locations for people that don't have the collection service.

"They live perhaps in apartments or a business, there are many places the first weekend or second weekend in January that will take trees for free," says Treadwell.

Treadwell says the trees should not be placed in bike lanes and all decorations need to be removed, along with the stand.

Most municipalities collect trees or offer drop-off locations.
