(AP) - Evacuation orders have been lifted for residents of a rural area of Lake County as crews rush to quell a wildfire burning through timber in steep terrain.
Cal Fire says the blaze reported Wednesday afternoon north of Clear Lake grew to about 450 acres by nighttime.
Residents of a wooded road within Mendocino National Forest were briefly evacuated as flames moved close to residences. The orders were lifted Wednesday night as the fire reached 20 percent containment.
The blaze is about 30 miles north of where wildfires last month burned more than 70 homes.
To the south, crews are still battling a massive wildfire burning for more than a month in the Sierra foothills east of Fresno. The 80,000-acre blaze is 25 percent contained.
