(AP) - Authorities in Fresno County have ordered mandatory evacuations in the Hume Lake area that will affect about 1,000 people after a wildfire crossed over a highway.
Fresno County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday Highway 180 will remain closed in the area until authorities determine it is safe to reopen.
The wildfire is burning in a remote area of the Sierra National Forest and grew to 80,901 acres with 3 percent containment Tuesday. The blaze in Fresno County was sparked by lightning.
Fresno officials say no one is being allowed to enter the area near Hume Lake, a reservoir that is one of Sequoia National Forest's most visited destinations.
