The Sacramento City Council has given final approval to a housing development near UC Davis Medical Center and U.S. Highway 50.
The council approved 214 apartments and 21 homes on Stockton Boulevard adjacent to the eastbound U.S. 50 onramp. The council rejected a challenge from a neighbor of the site who claimed the new apartments would affect traffic and that new retail space would lack parking.
Antonio Ablog is with the City's community Development Department.
"We went through of each of those assertions and compared them to the studies that had been completed," he says. "Staff did not believe that any of those assertions would change any of the mitigation or the conclusions of those studies."
The Evergreen Company plans to build a 230-space parking garage as part of the project. It will also widen 37th Street to create more on-street parking.
Ablog says T Street will also be widened.
Bike lanes and traffic signals with dedicated left-turn lanes will be installed at the intersection of Stockton and T Streets and there will be a sound wall to block freeway noise.
The first new tenants in the estimated $60 million project could move in by the end of 2017.
