Rocky Fire Thursday: Growth Halted, Containment Increases

Sunday 6:30 p.m. - The Rocky Fire is now at 85 percent containment after scorching 69,636 acres, Cal Fire said Sunday evening.

10:34 p.m. -  Cal Fire says containment of the Rocky Fire has reached 70 percent, with acreage burned holding at 69,636. All remaining evacuations will be lifted at 11 a.m. Sunday.

11:00 a.m. - Cal Fire says the remaining evacuation orders for the Rocky Fire are lifted as off 11 a.m. Saturday.

7:20 a.m. Saturday - Cal Fire says firefighters continue to make progress on the Rocky Fire, with containment now at 62 percent and acreage at 69,636.

6:25 p.m. - Cal Fire says containment has reached 50 percent, with acreage holding at 69,600 acres.

6:20 a.m. - Cal Fire will begin allowing some of the thousands of Rocky Fire evacuees to return to their homes this morning.

Battalion chief Rick Frawley says the Spring Valley area is expected to be reopened at 10 a.m.

"This is one of the larger areas that was under a mandatory evacuation order going back over the last 48-72 hours."

More than 13,000 people have been affected by evacuation orders since the start of the fire. More than 5,000 structures were threatened.

But crews continue to make progress. Frawley says the fire is 45 percent contained and he expects that number to reach more than 50 percent today thanks to humid weather.

"But Mother Nature can be fickle. We want to make sure that we have a strategy that can adapt to any changes in weather patterns."

He says Cal Fire expects to have the blaze fully contained within a week.
