The Rancho Cordova City Council voted Monday to approve a digital billboard along Highway 50 that will bring nearly $1.5 million of revenue to the city. Council members approved the proposal three votes to one in favor of Sierra Outdoor-Outfront Media over a competing proposal from Clear Channel Outdoor.
Diann Rogers is the president and CEO of the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce.
Rogers urged the council to approve the proposal, saying, "This billboard showcases Rancho Cordova on the cutting edge of technology. Not outdated, but willing to embrace the new and the different. I consider this a step forward."
As part of the agreement, Sierra Outdoor-Outfront Media will remove four traditional billboards. The electronic billboard will display a rotation of local small business ads, community announcements, and occasional traffic and public safety alerts.
The sign can be up to 60 feet tall and have two faces with 672 square feet of display on each side. The agreement gives companies the right to the location for 25 years with the ability to renew.
