Prescribed Burns To Take Place At Lake Tahoe

The Nevada Division of Forestry and the US Forest Service plan to conduct prescribed burns in the forest around Lake Tahoe starting Monday.

The prescribed burns will thin the fuel load before peak fire season to prevent large fires [like the Rim Fire that happened in 2013 or the King Fire last summer.

Burn bosses say the operations may last several weeks if safe burning conditions allow it.

Prescribed fires could happen at several locations, including north of Emerald Bay near Meeks Bay and Ski Run Boulevard near Heavenly.

Fire crews say the prescribed fires are planned around favorable weather conditions, and take into account the temperature, humidity, wind, vegetation moisture, and potential smoke dispersal.
