The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department reports deputies arrested a 14-year-old boy Wednesday night. He's accused of making a threat to John Barrett Middle School in Carmichael on social media.
In a news release, deputies say they were able to identify the student, who made the post to Instagram which included a picture of a weapon and language that raised concerns over school safety. Deputies say they arrested the student at his home last night and recovered a weapon that matched the one in the photograph.
The teen was booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Center on a felony charge of criminal threats and a misdemeanor charge of removing safety coloration marks from an imitation firearm.
The San Juan School District sent a notification to students and staff about the arrest.
