State data show the number of people living in the state grew by 335,000 between July of last year and this past July, or about one percent. That brings the state's population to nearly 38.5 million.

Sacramento County's population increased by just over one-percent adding 15,000 people. That puts the county's total population at nearly 1.5 million now. That's the 15th highest county population in the state. The largest increase in the four-county Sacramento region was Placer County which saw a 1.37 percent increase.

Births are down statewide, especially among women under 30. The so-called "natural increase" - or the difference between the number of births and deaths each year - grew by 243,000. Meanwhile, "net migration" grew by 92,000.
