Congressman Ami Bera (D) won a hard-fought re-election to a congressional seat in the Sacramento's 7th Congressional District.
Bera defeated Republican Doug Ose, a former congressman, by less than 15,000 votes as of November 19.
“I don’t know of any reason I would ask for a recount at this point,” Ose told Capital Public Radio News.
But, Ose said he would await the final vote certification before making a decision for a recount or talk about his future in politics.
The race became the nation's most expensive congressional race with nearly $20 million in total spending.
In an interview with Capital Public Radio News, Bera and Ose both say campaign finance reform is needed.
“Neither of us had any control or idea of where these millions of dollars came from or who was behind the stuff, and that’s a big problem for our democracy,” Ose told Capital Public Radio News.
Bera said he will continue to look at ways to reform campaign finance and work to “get all this outside money out of campaigns.”
