Cal Fire said Friday that a memorial service is scheduled Tuesday, October 21 in San Jose for air tanker pilot Geoffrey "Craig" Hunt. Hunt died when his plane crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire at Yosemite National Park on October 7.

Hunt worked for DynCorp. International, a company that supplies Cal Fire with pilots. The state firefighting agency said Hunt will receive full "line of Duty Death fire service honors."

“We continue to mourn the tragic loss of Craig.” said Chief Ken Pimlott, Cal Fire Director. “We know wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job, but Craig made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Hunt is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Cal Fire said the former U.S. Navy pilot was a chemistry teacher at UC Santa Cruz when he wasn't working wildfires.

Hunt was 62.

Cal Fire said that cards can be sent to the Hunt family:
