(AP) - The sentencing of California state Sen. Rod Wright for lying about his legal residence has been postponed.

Wright had been scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The defense, however, asked for a continuance because paperwork involving a motion for a new trial was incomplete.

Judge Kathleen Kennedy granted the delay but said it would be the last. She rescheduled sentencing for Sept. 12.

Wright was convicted earlier of perjury, voter fraud and filing a false statement of candidacy.

The Democrat had said he moved into an Inglewood property so he could run in 2008 to represent the 25th Senate District, but jurors found he actually lived outside the district. Because of redistricting, he currently represents the 35th Senate District.
