More Than 20 Wildfires Burning In California, Oregon

Firefighters in California and Oregon continue working Wednesday to control more than 20 wildfires.

The Eiler Fire in Shasta County has burned 31,085 acres and is 35 percent contained. The wildfire, 4 miles southeast of Burney, has destroyed 8 homes. Evacuations have been lifted. The cause is under investigation.

To the northeast of the Eiler Fire, in the Lassen National Forest, more than 1,000 firefighters are working the Bald Fire. The lightning-caused wildfire has scorched 39,926 acres. Fire officials say it is 68 percent contained.

And, firefighters have a line all the way around Oregon's biggest wildfire - the Oregon Gulch fire in the Siskiyou Mountains along the Oregon-California border.

Fire officials said Wednesday that cooler and moister weather continues to help firefighters. The fire is 15 miles east of Ashland and is burning in Jackson County (Oregon) and in Siskiyou County (California). It has burned 37,000 acres and destroyed six homes. The Oregon Gulch Fire is 35 percent contained.

More than 8,000 firefighters were battling fires Wednesday in California. At least 4,000 firefighters were working to control 10 large fires in Oregon.
