Davis Plastic Bag Ban Begins Tuesday

If you are shopping in Davis you're encouraged to bring your own resuable bag. If you don't, stores will be required to charge you a minimum 10-cent fee for each paper or resuable bag.

The bag ban includes grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores and mini-marts.

Restaurants are not required to charge the fee for paper or reusable bags used for take-out food.

The Davis City Council adopted the ordinance in November 2013.

Environmental groups say single-use plastic bags litter streets and waterways and harm wildlife.

More than 100 California cities and counties have similar bans.

Bills to create a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags in California have failed in recent legislative sessions.
