The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for western Plumas County and the west slope of the northern Sierra Nevada from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning. The winter storm watch is for areas above 5,500 feet, which are expected to experience periods of heavy snow and gusty wind.
The heaviest snowfall is expected Wednesday. The weather service says one to two feet of snow is expected above 6,000 feet before the storm system moves out on Thursday morning.
The system will bring rain elsewhere in California, with about half an inch expected in the Sacramento Valley and San Francisco Bay Area.
