(AP) The Nevada Division of State Lands is offering grants in that amount to public agencies seeking funding for projects to preserve and restore the Tahoe Basin's natural environment.

Applications are due by Jan. 31 in the State Lands Office in Carson City.

Since the first Tahoe license plate was purchased in 1998, the program has generated more than $6 million and funded over 100 projects.

Funds have been used for water quality improvement projects, research and monitoring studies, state park improvements, public education projects, and invasive species research and removal.

The special license plates to benefit Lake Tahoe are available at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
