The University of Nevada Reno is being named one of the top military-friendly schools in the nation.
Steve Rocha is an Iraq war veteran he says as a student at UNR there are a lot of challenges. The military trained them for physical attack. The work now is all mental.
“It is kind of like a rehabilitation process, becoming climatized to this type of environment," Rocha said. “Some of the students just don’t understand what we have been through and what we continue to go through what we have seen in our lives.”
Last semester UNR had 530 veteran students. Veteran and UNR Adjunct Professor Terry Hubert says three years ago the number was 700.
“There are reasons that some people do not admit that they are veterans sometimes they fear the backlash of being identified,” Rocha said.
In December the publication, Military Advanced Education will name UNR a top military-friendly school for its veteran-specific counseling and multiple service groups.
