Metro fire units were dispatched to the Folsom South Canal after getting 911 calls from people who saw the deer struggling in the water. The animal couldn’t get up the steep concrete sides of the canal.

Crews used a boat to get close to the deer where they used ropes to secure her. She was then brought to the ladder area of the canal were other crew members helped get the animal out of the water.

Except for being tired, Metro Fire officials say the deer was able to stand on her own and make a full recovery for return to the wild.
