The final leg of the torch run started on Auburn Folsom road this morning at 5:30 a.m.  At 9:20 a.m., Placer County Sheriff’s deputy Kevin Griffiths carried the torch onto the Sacramento State campus.  Griffiths says he was moved to participate by the competitive spirit of the Special Olympians.

“The devotion and the heart that everyone of those kids gives out every day to compete at their top –I mean, it may not be the top as another kid out there, but it’s their top and they’re going to give everything they’ve got- and to watch that is inspirational.”

More than 3,000 officers from agencies all over Northern California participate in the torch run every year.  The officers raised $1.2 million last year.   The torch run is the largest supporter of the Special Olympics.
