Long Wait Is Over For Lake Tahoe Water Shuttle

After six years of planning and public surveys the North Lake Tahoe Water Shuttle is pushing off. It hits five ports from 10 am to 11:30 PM, can carry eight bikes, and 12 passengers.

Jan Colyer of the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe Transportation Management Association says this is just the beginning of a bigger plan to have ten water shuttles around the lake.

“Some day you will be able to come into this area and be able to rely on public transit, vs. your car, park those cars and try it I keep saying try it just for one day if you live here,” says Colyer.

A pilot project last year carried 1,300 passengers in just two months. As a result of passenger surveys, the ticket price was cut in half to ten dollars and service hours were extended.
