Folsom Adopts New Fireworks Ban

Folsom City Council members this week adopted an emergency ordinance banning fireworks after July 4th. They also prohibited fireworks from being set off anytime in 11 city parks.

Folsom Fire Chief Eric Dutton told the council members the new restrictions make sense.

"In light of the abundance of extremely dry fuels throughout the city and state as evidenced by the devastating fire taking place in South Lake Tahoe as we sit here and the projections for possibly the worst fire season on record, this ordinance has been brought before you in the interest of preserving public health, safety and property."

The new ordinance also bans people from setting off fireworks on private property when posted by the owner. Dutton says some business owners have complained that people use private parking lots as spots to discharge fireworks without getting permission.
