Station’s second consecutive year as Visionary Media Partner with Sacramento Region Community Foundation highlights growing impact of community-supported model
Sacramento, CA — May 5, 2026: With great anticipation for the annual Big Day of Giving on May 7, CapRadio is once again stepping forward as the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s designated Visionary Media Partner, marking the public radio station’s second consecutive year helping power one of the region’s most important days of collective generosity.
As a trusted public media institution and anchor in the Sacramento region, CapRadio plays a unique role in building awareness for this local philanthropic movement, Big Day of Giving, a program of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation that grows charitable giving in the capital area by connecting donors with the nonprofits strengthening the region. Through its partnership, CapRadio helps listeners understand not just how to participate, but why it matters.
“Serving as the Visionary Media Partner for Big Day of Giving is a natural extension of who we are as a community-focused public media organization,” said Chris Bruno, chief marketing and revenue officer at CapRadio. “Through this partnership and initiatives like our Nonprofit Showcase program, we are living our mission in real time by uplifting the people and organizations doing essential work across our region. It’s incredibly gratifying to see our community-supported model in action.”
Launched last year on Big Day of Giving, the innovative Nonprofit Showcase program at CapRadio leverages short-form audio spots to elevate community voices from the scores of nonprofits that serve the region each year. The program has quickly become a signature example of how public media can convene, empower and connect in service to the community.
In just one year, more than a dozen nonprofits have been featured on-air, with over 75 organizations applying to participate. The program has created a powerful “nonprofits helping nonprofits” model, expanding awareness and strengthening the invaluable nonprofit ecosystem across the sector.
Sacramento Region Community Foundation Chief Executive Officer Kerry Wood said Big Day of Giving is a critical moment for area nonprofits that rely on charitable giving to support the services that help move the capital region forward, and the amplification of this work through CapRadio’s partnership and Nonprofit Showcase is making a difference.
“By giving nonprofits a platform to build awareness for their work, CapRadio reinforces its role as both an essential public service organization and a community builder,” Wood said. “Such collaboration and mutual support is something that we celebrate on Big Day of Giving and is something that makes the Sacramento region so special. We are proud to partner with CapRadio to elevate this local philanthropic movement that supports over 900 nonprofits. Together, we are building a stronger community.”
Recent Innovative Giving Success
CapRadio’s involvement in Big Day of Giving reflects a broader ongoing commitment to its public service mission and vision: when listeners and businesses invest in public media, they are investing in the long-term health of the entire community. That is the idea behind another of CapRadio’s innovative initiatives designed to expand real-world student learning while strengthening the future of local public media for communities throughout the region.
Launched early this year, CapRadio’s Public Media and Student Advancement fund is rooted in the public service mission of two of the region’s anchor institutions. The groundbreaking partnership between CapRadio and Sacramento State supports an integrated, long-term funding model that connects student advancement with the evolution of public media to deliver lasting educational, civic and cultural benefits for the Sacramento community.
In its inaugural year, $75,000 was raised to support paid internships that will help develop the next generation of journalists and creators while bolstering the civic fabric of the region.
As Big Day of Giving approaches, CapRadio continues to deepen partnerships and collaboration across the region, working alongside nonprofits, funders and community leaders to build a stronger, more connected Sacramento.
CapRadio invites listeners, members and partners to tune in on May 7, engage and give at BigDayofGiving.org.
