CapRadio Names Frank Maranzino as President and General Manager Following Successful Turnaround
Sacramento, CA — April 21, 2026: The CapRadio Board of Directors today announced the unanimous decision to appoint Frank Maranzino as the permanent President and General Manager, effective April 1. Maranzino has served as Interim President and General Manager for more than two years, successfully steering the public media organization to stability and growth after a period of historic financial and operational challenges.
As President and General Manager, Maranzino will be responsible for all aspects of CapRadio’s operations, including editorial strategy, audience and membership development, financial stewardship, technology and partnerships. He remains focused on strengthening local journalism, supporting staff, expanding audience reach and ensuring the station remains financially and editorially independent.
“Frank stepped up to lead CapRadio during its most turbulent chapter,” said Mark Wheeler, CapRadio board chair and senior advisor to the president at Sac State. “Over the last two years, he has proven himself to be exactly the leader this organization needs.”
Prior to his formal appointment, Maranzino’s interim leadership role at CapRadio involved revitalizing operations, rebuilding trust and charting a sustainable path forward for the station. Under his steady leadership, the station stabilized its core finances, implemented rigorous internal safeguards, refocused on its public service mission and reaffirmed its role as a trusted source of news, arts and cultural programming for the Sacramento region and beyond.
“Frank not only helped strengthen the organization’s fiscal foundation but also ushered in a new culture of transparency and operational excellence in public media,” said Susan Catron, vice chair of the CapRadio board and dean emerita at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education. “The Board has full confidence in his vision and ability to lead the organization into its next chapter.”
Maranzino implemented major operational changes and clear strategic priorities that he will carry into the future as CapRadio pursues its long-term mission to broaden its service to the community. His effective strategies included orchestrating a realignment and expansion of the newsroom that resulted in the station’s weekly listening audience growing more than 50% over two years; championing community engagement and transparent communication that helped restore confidence in the station and achieve record-setting membership revenue growth of 35% over two years; and, ensuring resources are dedicated to the station's public service mission to improve the core broadcast experience, uplift community voices and expand local news, arts and music coverage to better serve audiences in the region.
“It has been an honor to serve this organization and the community during such a pivotal moment — not only for CapRadio, but for public broadcasting in general,” said Maranzino. “CapRadio belongs to the people it serves. I’m deeply grateful for the trust of the Board and staff, and I’m excited to continue building a strong, resilient future rooted in public service, journalistic integrity and community connection.”
The Board expressed its appreciation for Maranzino’s leadership during the past two years and its confidence in the direction ahead, noting his steady hand, composure under pressure and disciplined, solutions-focused approach as a model of leadership.
