CapRadio Named Big Day of Giving’s Visionary Media Partner, Unveils New Nonprofit Showcase to Strengthen Communities
Public radio icon leans in on its public service mission to partner with and uplift fellow nonprofit organizations throughout the region
Sacramento, CA – Apr. 30, 2025: CapRadio was named as the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s Visionary Media Partner for this year’s Big Day of Giving taking place on May 1 and unveiled its innovative Nonprofit Showcase initiative designed to amplify the missions and good works of local nonprofits all year long.
With an eye on strengthening communities throughout the Sacramento region, CapRadio issued a call for local organizations designated as a 501(c)(3) to apply for the opportunity to share their nonprofit mission and stories of service. Selected entities will receive an invitation to visit the CapRadio studios for an interview-style recording session that will be produced into promotional spots aired on CapRadio’s news and music stations and posted on the website.
“As a community-funded resource that operates in service of our community, we are embracing partnerships and media collaborations that help our region thrive,” said Chris Bruno, chief marketing and revenue officer at CapRadio. “We are proud to serve as the Visionary Media Partner for Big Day of Giving and launch our new Nonprofit Showcase so we can build awareness for nonprofits making a positive impact in our community.”
“CapRadio exists to do exactly this kind of work, creating more informed, involved and educated communities through collaboration and support,” Bruno added. “The reception for this is off to a great start.”
One such partner already part of the program is AcademySTAY, whose CEO Jenny Davidson recorded a spot to help kick-start the Nonprofit Showcase. Davidson’s organization provides aged-out foster youth with stable housing, life skills training, mentorship and mental health support.
CapRadio is the only nonprofit radio broadcaster in the region that operates a 20-person local newsroom and develops locally produced news, classical music and jazz shows. Its content connects with communities through 32 radio broadcast towers, live streaming, newsletters, on-demand audio, live experiences and more.
Widely recognized for fact-based, nonpartisan news coverage and state politics and government accountability reporting, CapRadio programming is aired daily by NPR stations throughout California. Its hyperlocal community-engaged journalism and locally hosted classical music and jazz programs reach nearly 500,000 people in the greater Sacramento region weekly.
CapRadio Board of Directors Vice Chair Susan Catron cited the tension in the national discourse around public broadcasting as motivation to support this meaningful work. Catron said, “At a time when public media faces a growing threat to its future and sustainability, everyone in the community can make a difference in keeping CapRadio’s trusted, respectful and informative news coverage and broader public services accessible for all.”
The organization’s dedicated landing page boldly declares, “Because good work deserves to be heard.” It goes on to explain, “CapRadio is launching an innovative pilot program designed to amplify the voices of local nonprofit organizations in our community. Through this initiative, we will invite selected nonprofits into our studio to showcase their mission and impact via audio promotional spots that will air across CapRadio stations serving over 375,000 people a week.”
Nonprofits wishing to apply for this unique program can visit the landing page and fill out an application to share their mission and impact in the Sacramento community. Bruno added that the program is an excellent opportunity for organizations who otherwise might not receive this level of exposure.
