Nia Towne is the Chief Content Officer at CapRadio. She is responsible for shaping and guiding content strategy to connect with the community, deepen engagement, grow and diversify audiences and deliver on the organization’s public service mission. Nia oversees news, music and programming at the station.
Since joining CapRadio in early 2024, Nia has worked to create an organization that embraces collaboration and prioritizes public service. She has focused on building engaged, loyal audiences through consistent, relevant and high-quality content that is valued by local communities, approaching storytelling through a uniquely local lens while routinely engaging with the community and actively developing media partnerships.
As the Managing Editor of News, she led a restructuring of CapRadio’s newsroom and more than tripled local news output, launched a new dedicated Politics and Government team to serve public media audiences throughout California, invested in a hyperlocal SacramenKnow reporting team and spearheaded a major new partnership with the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative to expand journalism in Modesto and Stockton. Within a year of taking on a content leadership role at the station, Nia more than doubled CapRadio’s weekly news listening audience.
Nia became the Chief Content Officer in 2025. She has over 10 years of experience in newsroom leadership and staff management, including as a news director at ABC 10 in Sacramento, a news director at KIII Channel 3 in Corpus Christi and a managing editor of news at CBS 21 in Harrisburg.
