Scheduled website update: July 29 – 30, 2025
At CapRadio, we’re committed to making our digital spaces accessible to everyone in our community. As part of that ongoing effort, we’re implementing a number of updates and improvements to our website from July 29 – 30 that will keep us current with the latest accessibility standards and enhance the user experience for people using assistive technology or navigating without a mouse. As we make these updates, some CapRadio website users may experience longer-than-usual load times. The list of these updates are below:
Keyboard Navigation
- Top navigation dropdowns are now accessible via keyboard (using the Tab key to traverse. Spacebar or Return/Enter keys to expand).
- The magnifying glass icon and search field now include accessible names and follow a logical focus order.
- Audio controls and icons — including play/pause and volume — are keyboard accessible.
- The streaming player’s music schedule page and frequently asked questions on the help page are now keyboard accessible.
Screen Reader Compatibility
- Audio play/pause buttons and icons with links now include accessible names that describe their intended function of either playing/pausing audio or navigating to the streaming player.
- The Close (X) icon on the streaming player’s listen live page now includes an accessible name that describes its intended function.
- We've removed redundant links from images and marked them as decorative, reducing confusion and improving clarity for screen reader users.
Link Clarity
- Images are no longer being used as links to avoid confusion and issues with screen readers.
- Icons used as links now include meaningful information for assistive technologies.
- A link to the accessibility statement can now be found in the website footer.
- The streaming player’s redundant "Read More" links have been removed to avoid confusion.
Forms
- Required fields now include the word "Required" in the label, not just an asterisk.
Structural Improvements
- The "Skip to Content" button now works and is keyboard accessible.
Still in Progress
- We are currently working to improve contrast across the site to meet WCAG guidelines, especially for light blue or gray text on gray backgrounds.
