Jeff Leatherman with Sacramento County says the event and alcohol use that comes with it has contributed to dangerous behavior in recent years.

“Last year we had about twelve arrests, a number of trips to the emergency room and we had multiple saves in and along the river from the rafters coming downstream.  So, we were busy last year and we intend to curb that kind of activity with the restriction of the alcohol.”

This is the first time Sacramento County has banned alcohol on the river for this event.  State law bans alcohol on the stretch of river between Watt and Hazel during summer holidays.
