The organization published its vision of the future today with a list of goals it would like to achieve.
Heather Sanders is with Cal-ISO. She says people will conserve more power if the system operator provides greater incentives and better technology.
"You'll see the alarm companies for example offering home-energy management. And that's just gonna get smarter. There's an ability for customers to implement these things. It's gonna get smarter and it's gonna get easier."

Sanders says people with solar roofs and electric car batteries could and should supply the power grid.
"Packaging what you can supply what you can reduce as a resource to the ISO where we can say, 'Hey, I could really use this amount of megawatts at this time to help with the stress on the grid.' And conversely," says Sanders, "to allow those resources to consume at times when we have lots of wind and solar on the system."
Sanders says the California Public Utilities Commission is reviewing regulations that would allow the state power grid access to individual home storage and alternative energy sources.
Cal-ISO supplies power to 80-percent of the state's power grid.
