The California Emergency Management Agency has called for at least 35 fire engines from the Sacramento, Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada regions to deploy to southern California.
Chris Harvey, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesman, said the department is sending 21 people and four engines to the Thomas Fire in Ventura County.
"The Type I engines will be going to structure protection. They'll be going out into the neighborhoods and being assigned to streets or houses. The Type III engines will be going out actually into the field or the forest or hills or wherever they're needed," Harvey said.
Eldorado, West Sacramento, and Sparks Fire Departments are among 20 agencies also sending trucks and firefighters.
The Thomas Fire has burned about 50,000 acres. Another fire in the Angeles National Forest is called the Creek Fire.
It has burned 11,000 acres. Firefighters from the north may be detoured and sent to the Creek Fire instead.
