Winter 2010 Forum: "Would it Kill You to Plan for Your Death?"
Our Winter 2010 Forum will focus on a topic that receives scant attention in our society - how to plan a good death for yourself and those you love. With a panel of local experts, we will explore the medical, legal and spiritual decisions that can make passing on easier for everyone concerned. Our goal is to give you the information you need to make informed end-of-life decisions and communicate them clearly to your family.

Fall 2009 Forum: "Clearing the Air on Health Care Reform" Wed Oct 14 6-8pm at Sacramento State
In this forum, our goal is to inform and engage our audience in a civil, respectful tone by clarifying the need for reform and explaining why the current system is unsustainable. We’ll also attempt to make sense of the major solutions on the table, and explain in understandable terms the likely impact on our region and our nation. Our speakers include noted Policy Experts who will offer broad perspective on reform, as well as a number of Invited Guests who represent the voices of key stakeholders in this historic effort, AND your thoughts and questions about this critical topic.
Panelists:
Spring 2009 Forum: "Staying Healthy in a Sick Economy" Mon May 11 6-7:30pm at Sacramento State
These days, we are all treated to a daily dose of news on the economic meltdown and the unprecedented level of stress it is causing in our lives. Often, the next story tells us just how bad that stress is for our health, followed closely by more news about our broken health care system. We think it’s time to take a breather, and explore some ways that you can “stay healthy in a sick economy” without stressing your family’s budget.
In our Spring 2009 Second Opinions Community Health Forum, we will take a fresh approach as we explore topics like integrating alternative and traditional approaches to prevention; controlling stress through exercising body and mind; eating seasonally and locally to improve the planet’s health and yours; and creating an exercise game plan that will work for regular people.
Winter 2009 Forum: "Can You Trust Your Doctor?" Feb 25 6-8 p.m. at Pacific McGeorge School of Law
The question, “Can You Trust Your Doctor” gets to the heart of the relationship and opens the door to a discussion that will demystify medical care and answer questions about how your physician makes decisions. In the end, you’ll feel empowered to talk to your doctor and be more confident in your medical care.
The mission of Second Opinions Community Health Forums is to use the power of media and expertise of our local health care community to:
- Create and nurture community engagement through civil discourse on health-related issues facing the region;
- Improve health care literacy and access by providing unbiased, consumer-oriented information through community forums, programming content and online resources; and
- Enhance local quality of care by promoting greater transparency and accountability in our health care systems.
