Reaction to a plan to spend $8 million on a sculpture by artist Jeffrey Koons for the new Downtown Sacramento arena has been swift and intense. Though city leaders and arts representative tout the plan as a major coup for Sacramento, many residents and local artists are upset about the cost and where the artist resides. We’ll talk with Marcy Friedman, Shelly Willis, the executive director of Friends of the Arts Commission, and Lial Jones, director of the Crocker Art Museum, about the decision to go with Koons and hear why they think they City Council should vote yes for the plan.
