| | We're Celebrating Our 40th Birthday! | On this day in 1979, we signed on for the very first time! It's been an amazing journey over the last 40 years, one that wouldn't have been possible without you, our cherished members.
Together, we've come a long way. And that's worth celebrating. We still have our best years ahead of us, though, and we're excited to share all the moments to come. Happy 40 years, and cheers to 40 more!
Now, it wouldn't be a birthday celebration if we didn't have a fun little gift for the party-goers. Here's an audio clip of our first-ever broadcast from 1979.

Making Meadowview tells the stories of residents who live and work in the area and leaders who are remaking the neighborhood for the next generation.
Making Meadowview will be told online and through a multi-episode podcast. The Making Meadowview podcast trailer is available now, and the podcast series will launch later this summer. Over the next several months, stories, events and interactive media will debut on The View From Here: Making Meadowview website.

| | The Voices of Stephon Clark [Interactive Digital Media] | CapRadio's Digital Content team is constantly exploring new and innovative ways to tell stories online. For The Voices of Stephon Clark, this project started as the team mulled over different ways to create a timeline that went beyond a simple statement of dates and events. Ultimately, they wanted to focus on the people involved and create a journey that captured the responses and emotions as events unfolded.
Eventually, the idea came to life as Interactive Producer Emily Zentner sifted through the vast number of photos and audio gathered by CapRadio's News team. Discussing the idea with Chris Hagan, Senior Editor of Digital Content, the idea evolved into an interactive slideshow that combines images to visually depict events paired with audio clips. The result is an immersive experience that shows the different views and perspectives that occurred over the last year.

| | Stephon Clark Community Questions Answered | In the aftermath of the announcement that charges would not be filed against the police officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark, we received all kinds of questions from our listeners, including:
If Stephon was advancing as the DA states, then why did the autopsy report that Stephon was shot in his side and back?
Can the civil courts provide some remedy for Stephon Clark's family?
Do the shooting officers still patrol for the Sacramento Police Department?
We looked into your questions and answered many of them. Still have questions? You can find out what we've covered so far and ask more on our Stephon Clark Q&A page.

| | New Disclosure Law: Unsealing California's Secret Police Files | Senate Bill 1421 is a new law that is breaking down the wall of secrecy built up since the 1970s that blocked public access to serious police misconduct and deadly use-of-force information. In the weeks before the law took effect on January 1, news organizations in California formed the California Reporting Project coalition to request and report on the newly unsealed records.
Capital Public Radio, along with KQED, the Bay Area News Group, UC Berkeley's Investigative Reporting Program, KPCC and the Los Angeles Times, was part of the initial group, which has grown significantly since. The latest report details the continued fight to unseal these secret police files.

| | Insight with Beth Ruyak Is Back | After several weeks off for a bit of behind the scenes retooling, Insight with Beth Ruyak returned this morning with a series of abbreviated shows through Thursday. Starting Friday, Insight will be back to a full hour.
In the coming weeks you’ll hear the results of all the behind the scenes work,” says Joe Barr, CapRadio’s Chief Content Officer. “The show will feature a renewed focus on great conversations with Beth that provide perspective on the day’s news, along with enlightening, fun music and arts discussions.”
| Listener response was overwhelmingly positive for The Takeaway, which substituted for Insight during the hiatus. It will likely return in another slot on the CapRadio News weekday schedule this summer. |

| | Kevin Doherty Interviews Acclaimed Concert Pianist Lara Downes | Lara Downes' new album Holes In The Sky offers a diverse collection of tracks that range from 20th century classical compositions to newly commissioned works by contemporary composers. It also features high-profile collaborators such as pianist Simone Dinnerstein, vocalist/instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens and violinist Rachel Barton Pine.
But what stands out is that all of the composers and performers on the CD are women. Ultimately, Downes says her latest album is a celebration of the history and impact of women in music. On her way to a March 13th benefit concert for Women's Empowerment of Sacramento, she stopped by the studio to discuss her new album with Kevin Doherty.
