 | | Kevin Doherty Interviews Acclaimed Concert Pianist Lara Downes | Lara Downes' new album Holes In The Sky offers a diverse collection of tracks that range from 20th century classical compositions to newly commissioned works by contemporary composers. It also features high-profile collaborators such as pianist Simone Dinnerstein, vocalist/instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens and violinist Rachel Barton Pine.
But what stands out is that all of the composers and performers on the CD are women. Ultimately, Downes says her latest album is a celebration of the history and impact of women in music. On her way to a March 13th benefit concert for Women's Empowerment of Sacramento, she stopped by the studio to discuss her new album with Kevin Doherty. | |

 | | Celebrating Our 40th Birthday! | On this day in 1979, we signed on for the very first time! Our broadcast began with a recorded announcement that included music from Gustav Holst's Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity before our live announcer played the historic first selection, Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.
It's been an amazing journey over the last 40 years, one that wouldn't have been possible without you, our cherished members. Together, we've come a long way. And that's worth celebrating. We still have our best years ahead of us, though, and we're excited to share all the moments to come. Happy 40 years, and cheers to 40 more!
Now, it wouldn't be a birthday celebration if we didn't have a fun little gift for the party-goers. Here's the audio clip of our first-ever broadcast from 1979.
