| | | | The View From Here: Meadowview Project | The View From Here is a program that amplifies CapRadio's journalism by focusing on prolonged community engagement and relationship building to discover and tell powerful, authentic first-person stories.
The View From Here was already familiar with Meadowview from the Hidden Hunger project in 2014, and the team decided to come back and spend over a year in the community after the Stephon Clark shooting last March. The team wanted to delve deep into the community to understand the issues and struggles faced by individuals from Meadowview, and to give them a voice by bringing their stories and perspectives to a broader audience, including policymakers and community leaders. While the project is still ongoing, The View From Here team is playing an important role in connecting community voices to the reporting that occurs after the Stephon Clark announcement. Later this year, the project will culminate in a podcast series and significant supplemental material that showcases the community engagement aspect of the project, including an interactive map, a photo mural, videos and written articles. You can currently follow the latest updates on Meadowview from The View From Here's Facebook page. |

| | | | Great Question! CapRadio Answers Ellen Chapman's Question About Green Waste | Ever wonder what happens to your yard waste after you put it in that bin and drag it to the curb? Listener Ellen Chapman did.
As part of our listener-driven series, Great Question!, CapRadio Food & Sustainability reporter Julia Mitric went looking for waste. Her search took her to the Elder Creek Transfer Station, where green waste is processed and prepared for use as mulch and fertilizer.
| |
| Great Question! works by having the community submit and vote on questions. Each month we'll choose popular questions and report on them. In some cases, we'll even bring along the question asker for the story. Last month we completed our first Great Question! voting round, where you picked what question we answer next. The winner? Listener Andy Brenan wanted to know why traffic on Interstate 80 always seems to slow down in Dixon. CapRadio's Randol White is investigating the answer, and will share what he finds later this month. Have a question you want answered about the region? Submit it to us here. |

| | | | Uncovered California: Collaborative Reporting Venture on the State's Uninsured | Uncovered California is part of an innovative reporting venture–the USC Center for Health Journalism News Collaborative–of print and broadcast outlets across California, including the McClatchy Corp., Gannett, Co., Southern California News Group and La Opinion, as well as broadcasters at Univision and Capital Public Radio. The six-month project, from February to July, will result in reporting on air, in print and online on a wide range of topics that explore the state's uninsured. | CapRadio Healthcare reporter Sammy Caiola will be producing two reports each month in conjunction with other media outlets.
In February, Sammy reported on California's individual mandate (a fix for a broken system, or a penalty on the poor?) and how California plans to provide more health insurance to its residents.
Sammy has a number of interesting reports in the works, including how health insurance information and signups can be integrated into the 2020 census, SPIRIT surgeries–pro bono surgeries with huge waitlists–where doctors have impossible choices to make, and automatically giving uninsured senior citizens medical insurance coverage.
You can find all the reports over the next six months on the Uncovered California page at CapRadio.

Kahng, a devoted study of Price, stopped by CapRadio and sat down with Morning Classical Host Kevin Doherty to discuss Price's musical style and impact on her own life.
