Annual Insight

Dear Name,

Local, independent journalism delves into the complexities of issues impacting our region, asking the tough questions and unearthing the stories that demand our attention. At CapRadio, we are committed to cultivating a well-informed and engaged community by upholding the principles of truth, transparency and public service.

This service is made possible through the support of members like you. Making an additional one-time gift today will empower us to continue having important conversations and providing the in-depth reporting and analysis you rely on.

Our newsroom didn’t shy away from reporting on ourselves and asking tough questions when the California State University audit revealed significant financial problems at CapRadio. On Insight with Vicki Gonzalez, we held multiple interviews with CapRadio Interim President and General Manager Tom Karlo, Sacramento State President Luke Wood and the university’s student body president to let our listeners know what was happening and what steps are being taken to move forward.

Great job on covering the CapRadio audit. As a journalist and former public radio reporter, I believe it's a vital service to facilitate these discussions. Keep up the great work.”

- Andrew, Insight with Vicki Gonzalez listener

Your commitment as a member has also allowed us to shed light on often overshadowed and neglected matters — like that of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples crisis. I spoke with the managing editor of the only native-owned newspaper in California and the Yurok Tribal Police Chief to explore the history of mistrust and jurisdiction issues.

We have also been able to host interviews that give you a better understanding of your day-to-day life. Like why PG&E, the largest utility company in the country, is raising rates about an additional $400 a year. We talked to an economist and a rate payer advocate to help you understand why this is happening, what alternatives could work and how to think about equitable distribution of these costs.

I Support CapRadio

With your support, we will not falter in our commitment to independent public journalism and continue to serve as a trusted and reliable resource that informs and educates.
