Three employees of the Placer County Jail in Auburn were arrested Wednesday morning in connection with surveillance video found by a sergeant that allegedly shows inmates being assaulted.
Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell did not go into details about the assaults, but called the acts in the videos “compelling.”
"This is sad and unfortunate," says Bell. "And I want to stress this in as unambiguous terms as I can. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the sheriff’s office."
Bell says the video was found two weeks ago and the sergeant, deputy and officer involved were reassigned.
They were put on paid leave Tuesday.
The deputy and officer face charges of assault under color of authority, and falsifying incident reports. The sergeant faces one count of falsifying a report.
Bell says further review of other surveillance video revealed three additional incidents involving the assault of a total of four inmates.
