A 29-year-old male who attempted to escape from a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department patrol car has succumbed to injuries sustained during the escape attempt.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 8 p.m. Thursday. The suspect, reported to be in violation of a restraining order and a parolee-at-large, was taken into custody.
The department reports that the suspect kicked out the rear window of a moving patrol car en route to the Sacramento County Jail for booking. The handcuffed suspect sustained a major head injury after landing on the asphalt, according to a department press release.
Sacramento Metro Fire responded and transported the man to a local hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries 10 a.m. Friday morning.
