The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says officers shot and killed a man in Fair Oaks this morning.

A department spokesman says a man called 911 shortly before 5 a.m. to report someone had entered his home, but that the man had left.

According to the department, the suspect then tried to enter another neighbor's home, but fled on foot.

Two responding deputies saw the suspect on Mohawk Way and contacted him.

The deputies reported giving the suspect commands to show his hands. They say the man pointed something at them and rushed toward them, at which point they fired their guns.

The man was found to be unarmed.

The officers are 11-year, and two-year veterans.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, Professional Standards Division, Inspector General, and District Attorney will all review the shooting.
