Suspect In Serious Condition After Exchanging Gunfire With Placer County Deputies


UPDATE: 12:35 p.m.: The suspect in the officer-involved shooting incident in Loomis has been identified as Rodney J. Hance, 49 of Fresno. Officials say he is in serious condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office says Hance had a felony arrest warrant for drug charges in Fresno and that the incident Monday stemmed from a domestic dispute between Hance and his ex-wife. 

Hance is suspected of exchanging fire with Placer County Sheriff deputies on Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis. 

Original Post: The Placer County Sheriff's Office says it's continuing to investigate an officer-involved shooting incident where one suspect exchanged gunfire with deputies Monday morning.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred in Loomis along Horseshoe Bar Road. 

According to officials, deputies received a call about a man waving a weapon in the Raley's parking lot on Horseshoe Bar Road at about 9 a.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect ran away. A deputy followed him and that's when the suspect drew his handgun and fired, according to the sheriff's office. The deputy returned fire. 

The suspect continued to run through a neighborhood and eventually into the property of the Loomis Substation of the Placer County Sheriff's Office, where he encountered two more deputies. 

Shots were fired in that location. There were no reports of injuries to deputies. 

The suspect's identity is not being released and he is only being described as a 49-year-old Fresno resident. The man is being treated at the Sutter Roseville Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
