(AP) - The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office is investigating after several fiber optic lines were cut in Stockton leaving many without cellphone or landline service.

The Stockton Record reports that the AT&T lines were damaged Tuesday night and that service was restored by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

San Joaquin Sheriff's Deputy Dave Konecny says the county's cellular 911 system was affected by the cut lines, with service restored just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

AT&T spokesman Matthew Cross says it is unknown how many customers were affected.

Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Heidi Flato says service was interrupted for their customers in the area as well.
